Forgot to mention, Hamas is sending text-messages to Israeli cell phones warning them of destruction unless the Gaza operation ends. This is a truly direct form of propaganda in that bypasses government and media filters and goes directly to the people. It mirrors Hezbollah's similar (and extremely effective) direct contact with the Israeli people during the long border conflict in South Lebanon in the 1990s. Taking advantage of parents' need for information about their children in uniform, Hezbollah made internet appeals directly to parents of IDF soldiers and maintained a website that published information and news about IDF casualties that Israeli parents admitted to checking religiously. It didn't help that the IDF, like many government organs, was slow to release information, secretive, and even deceptive in many cases, increasing the hold that Hezbollah had over the IDF parents. Perhaps Hamas may opt for something similar if the conflict continues to drag on.
