Unfortunately there may be no good solution to the isolated terrorist problem, except for community vigilance, which in turn requires the community to have faith that the government will handle the problem responsibly. The underwear bomber's dad alerted US security. Would continued lawless detentions without charge and torture make his type of action more or less likely? Clearly the rule of law as practiced by the US can be a strong and effective defense- a 'morality shield' in deterring attacks or convincing overseas attackers that there are countries that are more worth while to attack.


I don't see myself, Bunker, or Hakim endorsing black sites or torture, so I'm not sure where this comment is coming from.
