I'm far from the only person who's noticed this, but thinking about Los Angeles after having moved to DC reminds me very much of the director's cut of Blade Runner, minus the flying cars and evil robots---though at least the flying cars would have come in handy in LA for sure!
I'm not sure whether Blade Runner having aged so gracefully is proof of its prescience or the unfortunate fact that urban infrastructure has stagnated over the last few decades. In any event, as a dystopian future Blade Runner is a lot better than Mad Max.
